Reflective vest for chickens

Why did the chicken cross the road? Because now she can without getting hit!

A fearless rescue chicken who walks around an English village got a reflective vest to prevent cars from running her over, causing locals to squawk with delight.

Billie Jean the hen, who lives at The Railway Inn in Cam, Gloucestershire, was given the neon-yellow garment after being spotted strutting her stuff miles from home, according to SWNS.

“Locals have told me she followed them to school while they were dropping off their kids. I’ve even had to walk her back before she wandered too far and got into trouble,” said Lucy Brimble, a bartender at the pub.

Workers at the bar gave the bird a high-visibility vest with special holes for her wings, personalized with her name, after locals voiced concerns she might be hit while free-ranging.

“We’ve had people message us on Facebook, worried about Billie crossing roads. So, we decided to get her a high-viz jacket,” pub landlady Sharron Brimble, 60, said.

“People do love her. She’s quite a character,” she added.

She prefers being alone and doesn't enjoy the company of other chickens.  When she goes across the road, cars stop for her. She rules the roost – she doesn’t care.”

The headstrong hen, who is believed to be about two years old, was named after a regular at the pub.
