Medway Council has initiated the "Be Bright Be Seen" road safety campaign ahead of the clocks going back on 27 October. All year six primary school children in Medway are being provided with free reflective keyrings. The council aims to encourage residents to enhance their visibility as evenings get darker. A council spokesperson emphasized that even a small amount of reflective wear can have a significant impact, enabling a person to become visible up to 150 metres sooner when a car headlight shines on them.

Cyclists are urged to check and clean their lights and use rear and spoke reflectors. Motorists are advised to stay alert and exercise extra caution while driving, as it becomes more challenging to spot pedestrians and cyclists in the dark. The council is also suggesting parents practice the walk to school with their children, highlighting safer crossing points and potential hazards. Alex Paterson, the council's portfolio holder for highways, stated that with darker nights and mornings approaching, wearing something reflective is a simple yet effective measure for everyone to stay safe on the roads this winter.
