Tourists in northern Finland should not be surprised to see reindeer with glowing antlers. The local reindeer association says it is spraying reflective paint on the antlers and bodies to avoid car accidents.
Olira, head of the Finnish Reindeer Herders' Association, said: "It's handy and we hope to coat all the reindeer, old and young, in the region with reflective paint." According to Orilla, there are 3,000 to 5,000 car accidents involving reindeer yearly, resulting in many deaths.
In the hope that drivers will be able to see the reindeer more easily at night, the association has sprayed 20 reindeer antlers in Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, with reflective paint, which lasts longer and can be washed off.
